Franz Liszt was another admirer and personal friend of the composer, and he transcribed for piano six of Chopin's Polish songs. Among his recordings were nine of the Chopin waltzes, cut from 1919 to 1930. The 1830s music written for it played a dominant role in European musical culture. In 1861 he met Franz Liszt, who shared his Catholic faith, and together they worked with Richard Wagner to develop the German school. On 16 November 1848, despite frailty and a fever, Chopin gave his last concert, playing for Polish emigr�s in the Guildhall in London.

Both composers also wrote a number of works that have remained in the core of classical solo piano repertoire. In his last years, he was financially supported by his admirer Jane Stirling, who also arranged for him to visit Scotland in 1848. Sending his copyist, Julian Fontana, his manuscript (neither the autograph nor Fontana’s copy are extant), Chopin attached a note that this time (unlike in the case of the Tarantella, Op. 43) expressed a rarely shown satisfaction: “it is well modulated, isn’t it?” In this constant stream of modulations, with no specific form, the main theme and the accompaniment are intertwined.
